Do I Need a Chemical Peel?

Do I Need a Chemical Peel?

From injectables and specialty facials to high-end cleansers and serums, there is a neverending list of things to add to your beauty routine. If you follow the latest beauty trends, you know that chemical peels are one of the best treatments for skin resurfacing.

At Impressions MediSpa, we offer a variety of chemical peels that lead to youthful, glowing skin. We use our chemical peels to address fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, and other skin issues. In this blog, our skin experts have outlined how to add a chemical peel to your skincare regimen.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is what it sounds like: a cosmetic resurfacing procedure that causes the outermost layer of the skin to peel. Once a chemical solution is applied, a fresh layer of glowing skin is revealed. Chemical solutions typically include glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid (phenol).

However, there are many different types of chemical peels. Both deep and superficial peels act as supercharged exfoliants that reveal fresh, vibrant, smoother skin after a few days of healing. We can customize these skin resurfacing treatments to target specific treatment areas with varying intensity.

At Impressions MediSpa, we can help you determine which chemical peel best suits your needs and skincare goals.

What are the Typical Results of a Chemical Peel?

While chemical peels produce results after one treatment, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and other pigmentation still take time to minimize. Of course, patients should not expect to look like they had major cosmetic surgery following a peel. Our patients often see a noticeable improvement in skin texture and tone after one to two peels.

Since chemical peels work slowly and gently, it often takes a sequence of treatments for patients to reach their desired results. Most patients have achieved their desired result within three to six peels.

Is There Any Recovery Time?

The side effects of chemical peels are relatively minor and contained in the treated area. Initially, patients may be a little pink and puffy while they peel for three to five days. Patients who choose to wear makeup can do so the day following treatment. There’s no need to take time off of work to heal.

It’s essential that patients diligently wear sunscreen for at least a week post-treatment. Those who will spend more than a few minutes outdoors should also wear hats and limit sun exposure, as skin is very sensitive and more prone to sun damage immediately following a peel.

How Do I Know if a Chemical Peel Is Right For Me?

Schedule a consultation if you want to change your skin but need help figuring out where to start. We’ll discuss your areas of concern so that we can create tailored recommendations for your goals. Botox is known for its amazing anti-aging properties. BOTOX injections help reduce the visibility of frown lines, forehead creases, drooping eyelids, crow’s feet, and many other treatment areas. After only one treatment into the injection site, fine lines and wrinkles have a more softened appearance.

2. Alleviate Health Symptoms

Not only can BOTOX be utilized for cosmetic purposes, but this treatment can also increase health and wellness. Chronic migraines and pain from TMJ have been shown to reduce with BOTOX treatments. Additionally, these injectables can be used as treatments for medical conditions, such as neck spasms, excessive sweating, or an overactive bladder.

3. Get Glowing Skin

BOTOX blocks nerve signals to relax the muscles in your face, resulting in smoother and more radiant skin. Many clients note that their skin looks fresher and younger-looking. BOTOX can also reduce the appearance of pores, giving your skin a beautiful, natural glow.

Amazing benfits of Microneedling

Amazing benfits of Microneedling

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment in which micro-needles make tiny punctures in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process and reversing the signs of aging. Because of this, it became the go-to skin therapy for its ability to help rejuvenate skin, improve particular skin concerns and prevent wrinkles.

Benefits of Microneedling

Reduces Scarring
Using micro-needling to reduce scars is ideal because it stimulates the growth of new collagen in your skin and skin rejuvenating markers to help heal scarring.

Healthier and Younger looking skin
By stimulating collagen and elastin, your skin will tighten, causing your skin to start repairing itself, revealing your healthier and younger skin underneath.

Helps Stimulate Hair Growth In some clinical studies microneedling has been shown to help to stimulate hair growth and can also help reduce hair loss by regenerating hair follicles.

Helps Reduce Wrinkles
As we grow older, we tend to produce less collagen, and the skin gets looser. Microneedling helps to stimulate your body to produce new skin cells and helps with the most common wrinkles, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, fine lines, and saggy skin.

Common Derma Filler Injection Areas

Common Derma Filler Injection Areas

As we age, our body’s production of collagen and elastin begins to decline. Facial movement lines become more visible, and it makes the skin sag and look old.

Injecting dermal fillers such as Kysse, Voluma, Juvederm, Restylane, and Radiesse will replace lost facial volume, lift sagging skin, enhance or fill in shallow areas on the face, smoothen wrinkles, and other areas that need extra volume for a smoother look.

Lips– Lip fillers can be used for adding natural-looking volume and shaping your lips.

Forehead Line – Facial movements create vertical and horizontal lines and is one of the first places to age in the face. Replacement of volume in the forehead with fillers can help you regain a smoother forehead concavity and a more youthful appearance.

Under Eyes – This area is often associated with looking tired, and is a common cosmetic concern. Fillers can help reduce the dark and sunken areas developed from fat loss.

Cheeks, Jawline and Chin – What makes a big difference in facial balance is the chin area. Adding Dermal Filler like Radiesse to the cheeks, chin and jawline will replace lost volume, sharpen and enhance the mentum and create a more balanced profile.

Nose – Nose fillers help building a pointer nose tip, increase the height of the nose and straightening the appearance of the nose.

Scars – Volume replacement using certain fillers along with other treatment will help improve acne scarring and smooth out the skin towards its normal level.

Nasolabial Fold – Deep lines usually appear as a person ages from the edge of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. Dermal Fillers provide a more youthful and relaxed appearance.

FACIAL CONTOURING: BEUTIFICATION AND MASCULIZATION

FACIAL CONTOURING: BEUTIFICATION AND MASCULIZATION

by Mariam Alimi, MSN, FNP, BC

Contouring has been a popular buzzword for years and it is often mentioned in the beauty/makeup industry to accentuate certain facial features.  Contouring can show lifted, defined cheeks bones and it can also define other areas of the face including the nose, jawline and the chin.  Contouring with makeup can use light and dark make up to help create illusions and shadows and highlights.  It is common for women to desire to highlight their cheek bones because it is a sign of youth and lifted face.

While makeup can do wonders, did you know that dermal fillers can help supplement and help change your existing bone structure.  Facial contouring with dermal fillers can lift areas and pull back areas up that have lost elasticity.  One can also use FDA approved fillers such as Restylane Lyft, Juvéderm Voluma and Radiesse to help change the shape of the face for example an ideal face shape is heart shaped or contoured with strong cheekbones and jawline.

CHEEK AND JAWLINE CONTOURING: MASCULIZATION AND BEUTIFICATION

One should always start with the cheeks when doing facial contouring because often when a person determines our age, we look at the eyes and the surrounding area, cheeks and under eyes.  Celebrities that come to mind with strong jawlines that come to mind for example Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.  For men it is imperative to have a chiseled jawline as evolution has determined this is a sign of attractiveness for men.  There are points on the face for example for men that can be contoured with dermal fillers, for example the mid face, square chin and jawline to help give them achieve a more masculine, rugged appearance.

On the other hand, for women there are areas of the face that we can highlight and make more feminine such as contouring the cheekbones and chin.  These areas anchor the face and help tighten and pull back, so using dermal filler to restore volume loss will lift the lower face.

Dermal filler such as Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma, Kysse are amazing option to really make those cheekbones ‘pop’.  Using dermal filler for facial contouring can also restore balance to the face. Whether it’s a result of genetics or environmental factors, such as sleeping predominantly on one side of the face, filler can correct asymmetry as well.   If you would like to find out more, or interested in getting evaluated for treatment, call us at our Fairfax office for a free consultation at 703-273-0001.
